BlueSeal air curtains – built exclusively for road transport
BlueSeal air curtains have been revolutionising the way that transporters keep cold air inside their vehicles during door openings since 2010. They cater to an impressive client base that rely on this technology to safely and efficiently maintain cargo temperature and keep heat and moisture out of the cargo area when loading and unloading. One of the key reasons behind the success of BlueSeal is that this is a product solely built for the specific needs of transport.
BlueSeal originated as a solution to an early zero-emission refrigerated trailer concept that needed to reduce energy loss at the most vulnerable point in the cold chain in order to be viable – when doors are opened and goods are exposed to outside temperatures. This was previously solved by PVC curtains but the team proposed air curtains as a more elegant solution where the barrier would remain uninterrupted during loading and loading.
Designed to fit all vehicles and door configurations
BlueSeal air curtains have a range of models and configurations depending on the vehicle it’s intended for, that can cater for all temperature-controlled vehicles and door configurations. This includes shutter doors, side doors, vehicles with lintel obstructions and even a custom model built in partnership with French body builder Lamberet for Intermarché and other customers of theirs that provides an all-in-one solution by integrating the air curtain into their shutter door design.
As well as the most popular BlueSeal Original model, they also offer a more slimline version with a height of only 87mm. BlueSeal Compact allows vehicles looking to benefit from an increased loading height with all of the performance of BlueSeal Original. BlueSeal Compact Series S caters to small trucks and panel vans with air speed and direction optimised for smaller loading spaces and BlueSeal Compact Series L offers the benefits of this reduced size with air flow optimised for larger vehicles.
For enhanced features such as a door opening timer, battery guard and integrated light sensors, BlueSeal offers BlueControl that can be integrated into your BlueSeal Original model or provided as a peripheral unit to be placed in your location of choice in the vehicle.
Each unit is tailor made for the vehicle
Rather than provide an off-the-rack solution, BlueSeal units are individually built in the Netherlands for the vehicle they are being fitted to. This means that each unit is designed for the exact size of the door opening, is available as a 12V or 24V model and has options for cable positioning. This means that BlueSeal is specifically built with the needs of your specific operation in mind and can be easily installed in any new or current vehicle through an easy installation process that is familiar to all major bodybuilders.
Efficient power handling and air flow optimisation
BlueSeal air curtains are designed for maximum efficiency, with the largest model operating at a mere 120W. Despite this, it delivers a high volumetric air flow through a patented internal geometry that produces a uniform and laminar airflow profile. Because of the low power demand and the resulting energy savings, BlueSeal air curtains are perfectly positioned for use on commercial EV to help save valuable on-board energy.
While it is a common misconception that ‘higher air speed equals better performance’, physics suggests otherwise, as demonstrated in numerous tests and scientific papers. Excessive air speeds create turbulence, which accelerates heat transfer into the cargo space. BlueSeal’s patented system creates a stable air flow without the counterproductive effects of high-velocity turbulence.
This ‘sweet spot’ of airflow optimisation was independently validated in a study by Brunel University London. Their research confirmed that precision-tuned air speeds, rather than raw power, are the key to superior temperature retention. For operators, this science-first approach translates directly into reduced refrigeration unit run-times, lower fuel costs, and better protected product quality.
A science first approach to temperature control
BlueSeal air curtains are used in over 28 countries worldwide and are becoming an essential part of how operators manage their cold chain during deliveries.
Speaking on the ongoing success of BlueSeal air curtains, Business Development Manager Tom Opdam says: “First and foremost, we are a team of passionate physicists with decades of combined experience in cold chain science. I believe that the reason we have become such a trusted solution for businesses around the world is that we put science above all else and don’t make compromises in our product. It is of utmost importance that we have a well built, domestically produced, high quality product that has been rigorously tested to ensure the best possible solution to managing cold chain. Any time that BlueSeal has been put to the test, it has been unmatched in its ability to maintain cargo temperature during deliveries”.
