air curtains for drivers

BlueSeal air curtains – making the day-to-day lives of drivers easier

Over the past decade, temperature-controlled distributors have increasingly looked towards efficiencies in their vehicles to save costs in their day-to-day operations while improving the integrity of perishable goods during transit.

BlueSeal air curtains have played a significant role in the advancement towards the sustainable transport of cold goods by helping operators save cooling energy through significantly reducing energy loss during deliveries.

While the benefits of greater cold chain management are well understood by vehicle operators and fleet managers, BlueSeal air curtains have been speaking to the delivery drivers directly about how this technology has improved their daily working lives.

The team at BlueSeal air curtains have found that delivery drivers have generally welcomed the opportunity to give first hand feedback and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Air curtains offer the only method of vehicle cargo climate control that is not prohibitive to a driver making deliveries, by creating an effective stream of air flow that is automatically switched on when doors are opened, allowing drivers to pass through uninterrupted while the cold chain remains intact inside the cargo area.

One driver making deliveries for a major food retailer in Lancaster enthusiastically told BlueSeal: “They’re absolutely bang on, much better than those plastic curtains you used to have!”, adding, “They’re dead useful in Summer as well when you get hot and can stand underneath it”.

A small pizza company unloading ingredients from to their market stall from a van in Northwich commented; “these have been a godsend for us as we’re so dependent on keeping our ingredients fresh, our converter recommended them and it just makes our lives easier when we’re getting things out of the van”.

Another driver for a large catering supply company in Lyon, France, spoke to a team member about how their daily life had been greatly improved through greater visibility when making deliveries. They also added that this has made loading and unloading significantly easier without the hindrance of physical curtains.

Business Development Manager Tom Opdam said: “Over the past few years, as our technology has become the choice method of climate control for so many distributors, it is extremely commonplace to see our air curtains being used to make deliveries wherever we are throughout Europe and North America. There’s no better way to validate the work we’re doing than to speak to the drivers directly, as long as we’re not stopping them from doing their jobs. We find that drivers are more than willing to share their experience of using BlueSeal in their working lives and it’s been a great way for us to get direct feedback from the workers that use them day-to-day”.

While it has been rewarding for the company to see BlueSeal improve the working lives of the people that use their technology daily, they have received significant praise from operators welcoming the benefits of installing their air curtains in their vehicles.

BlueSeal is known to significantly reduce the use used by TRU’s with a demonstrated 45% saving of cooling energy in 18 tonne trucks, according to a study by Brunel University and The Centre of Sustainable Energy Use in Food Chains.

It has also proven in comparative tests that BlueSeal outperforms PVC curtains over multiple delivery stops, maintaining cargo temperature significantly lower than physical curtains, being especially effective in scenarios where doors have been left open for several minutes and drivers are entering and exiting the cargo area.

BlueSeal air curtains are featured in the vehicles of food, pharmaceutical and other temperature-controlled logistics operators worldwide, with over 25,000 units sold to date.
